Duck Season and Fattening Up

Sorry if this is a repeat picture. It's another one of S's shots.
Duck Season starts in the next week or so, so each morning I go out and pick up more barb wire that we tore down on the fence line between the steer lot and the horse pasture. The pasture has been closed to the horses for sometime because of the wire, and to let it get some re-growth. Once I pull the horses off the pond bank they will be off of it until mid-December, so maybe it's time to move them across the road. I hate to feed out hay until absolutely necessary.

Mid August marked the date when I switched my horses over to a new feeding system. It has worked pretty well so far, but both Gunner and Dixie are getting a bit chubby. I know it is because of the unlimited grass and clover on the pond banks, but I thought the new feed was supposed to help regulate it somewhat. I guess not so much. Plus the two went from being ridden 4-5 times a week to being pasture ornaments. So some additional restrictions will have to be put into place for those two. I might have to put them on hay just to regulate their weight. But then again, I might just leave them a bit heavy going into winter. It's supposed to be a rough one. It's a constant battle isn't it?

Today is the homecoming parade in town. We are driving the tennis float. Then I work in the foodstand for the first half of the football game and get out just in time to see the half time show. I am a big fan of the marching band, seeing as my kid is in it. In fact I often wonder what all the football is for...aren't we all there to watch the band? Plus there is talk of a bon-fire here at our house for N and her friends after the game. Between now and then I have 6 fleece scarves in orange and black to make, cause I am a cool Mom like that.

Tomorrow is a volleyball tournament in the morning for S, hair appointment, makeup and pictures, dinner and the big dance for N.

Sunday is 4-H achievement banquet which our club is hosting.

Whew... when Monday rolls around I will be glad to get back to work to take a break from all this!!

Busy Mom! I wish I had the "fat" horse problem...it is hard to put weight on my mare...it is amazing what she eats every day and still looks so slim. Why can't I have that metabolism??

How fun that you actually get to drive a float in a parade!
