In October N and her flute and piano instructor pick out a nice little piece of music to use as a competition piece in late February.
Guess what? It's late February. Through tears of frustration we are drawing closer and closer to the competition this Saturday. Of course thrown into the last six weeks is a round or two of winter sickness. The latest setting in last Thursday night, so school is missed and makeup work ensues.
At this point my job is to give out encouragement both positive and negative when needed. It's a fine line I walk between "suck it up and get no with the song"(last night) and "just take some NyQuil and go to bed."(the night before) Oh and hugs, lots and lots of hugs, and many "We're SO proud of you!"This year she is competing in six events. Two solos (piano and flute) and a duet with her horsie friend A on piano (Hava Nagilla!). Also a quartet of flutes, a flute choir (12 flutes) a woodwind ensemble and a jazz piece. Honestly at this point I just want her to have some fun with the day. I'm hoping she can enjoy the ups and downs of the results.
