Another. Cold. Day. Here. I am putting off feeding the horses until it gets to -5F. Do you think they even want to eat when it’s this cold? The answer is yes, in fact they do, and they are staring at the house wondering what I am waiting for. Last week I asked Jack to put a round bale in with the horses. My supply of small square bales is dwindling, and this time of year I don’t mind them having a round bale or two. At the time the skid steer was at the other farm so it wasn’t possible without a lot of extra work. He was quite willing to go and get it and give the horses the hay, but I couldn’t see wasting his time. I have the hay, I was just dreading the upcoming cold snap.
The picture from yesterday is of one of our Dairy Steers that the girls will show at the fair this summer. This is our first experience with Dairy steers (Holsteins to be exact) and they are so cute! If the Angus steers could talk, they would tell you it’s like having a couple of basketball players hanging out with the wrestling team. They tower over all the other steers. Then, to make it more interesting they love to be on top of the snow mounds in their pen. Cows, especially the young ones, love to play king of the mountain. But, seriously, with the way the sclera (area of the eye that circles the iris) sits on these steers, they look like they have lazy eyes. It makes them look both cute and goofy at the same time.
Speaking of eyes…here’s a couple of eye shots I took last time I had the camera out.
Here’s Gunner
Dixie
And of course the one you really want to see…Lloyd! Who, is now affectionately known as Donkey at our house. Mainly because of Shrek, and it just seems to fit. “Donkey move over.” “Donkey be quiet!”
I have been tagged by Deana to do a Love/Hate Meme, which I hope to get to this weekend. In the mean time go check out her blog. It's one of my favorites!

Nice pics. I think our high today was 4 and I know it will drop below 0 tonight. You too I suppose. We're both in Wisconsin!
We are feeding ours extra too. I think they need the food for energy in this cold. And you guys are really cold! -5, I am not going to complain when I have to feed at 8 anymore. It still sucks though. Hay is outrageous here now. Really expensive with the drought this past summer. Luckily we have 1/2 a room left in the barn and a guy holding more for us. It was a tough year for horse owners in these parts. I know alot of people that had to sell some off because they couldn't afford to keep feeding them.
Your pics are beautiful...oh and I gave you the E award today.
I've just tagged you, my fellow Wisconsinite.......Come on over for a visit for the rules.....It's fun!
Love the eye pictures.....
And I'm late but so glad you have chickens again!
