Well, actually it began a few days ago. Gunner and I began his rehabilitation. Everything seems to be going pretty well.
Last week twice I had him out walking around etc. A big truck came and he decided it was TOTALLY necessary to jump over the rocks in my ditch. Yep - I will say he is still pretty graceful and was able NOT to jump up on me. He cleared the rocks and landed lightly next to me. Of course there was snorting involved but then he settled back down.
Yesterday we went on a long walk around the pasture. Woo Hoo! Big workout! He's been doing practically NOTHING for so long anything was a start. We also worked on bending and I can tell he retained from last year when I worked with him. In addition he has learned to tuck his head quite well. He's really good at giving at the poll - actually too good as his neck arches. I have also taught him to hug me. Yeah. Real useful. Well, it is useful when I am feeling blue but other than that he has become a treat hog. Thus the head tucking. No. More. Peppermints.
Today we started work on the lounge line again. We are working on trotting on a hill. It makes him control his foot placement and conditions him all in one easy workout. Easy for me at least. Who knew that on January 3rd it would be practically 50 degrees in Wisconsin?
Tomorrow when the girls get off the bus the horses will be ready and waiting for them to ride. I figure they can ride Thursday and Friday the way the weather is. The ground is soft and S needs some additional work on Classy. She is adjusting well to the loss of Kelzon. Riding Classy can only help.

What a difficult adjustment to have to make. I'm so very sorry, Kathy. :(
It is a big workout I'm sure! It scares me when they jump by or over me... There is one spot on our ride here that means crossing the main highway with big tractor trailors flying by and I refuse to ride Spirit up to it. I get off, lead him and get back on.
Every since I read the story of that little girl that was so well trained but for some reason her horse spooked and jumped in front of the big truck before she could do anything...that just worries me. So I am not going to take the chance!
Still thinking about you guys and the loss of Kelzon!
Wow, get off the school bus and have horses waiting, saddled. That's the life.
Mine gets met at the school door and driven five minutes and has to go change her clothes while her horse is being tacked up...also very rough :)
I'm so very glad I have a horse blog buddy!
Kathy, I must have missed something. Why does Gunner need rehab?
