So, on Friday I pull in to the 13 year old's friends house to pick her up and as she is leaving the house she yells back to another friend "Say good bye to Loohmans for me!"
After we get in the car I (of course) ask "Who's Loohmans?"
Her: Oh he's a guy we were IMing with.
Me: Someone you know? Loohman, that's a strange name.
Her:Oh, he's a friend of A's. He's in highschool.
Me: Really, has A ever met him face to face? How does she know him?
Her: I dunno.
Me: You are not allowed to IM him. If he's on your list take him off.
Her: Okay Mom. (not even sarcastically)
Sigh - so after pondering it all day while giving a part for the 10 year old, and after drinking a bottle of wine the conversation continued...
Me: You are off IM for the next two weeks.
Her: What!
Me: You were told last year you are not allowed to IM people you don't know.
Her: But A, knows him!
Me: Really, has she ever met him?
Her: I dunno.
Me: Exactly, what if he's a cop in disguise, a pervert, or whatever?
Her: Okay....
The next day I took IM off the machine, which is no easy feat, let me tell you! Since then I have talked to A's Aunt. She is investigating it further, as am I. I think it's time I call her parents and tell them that maybe she should check out her IM list, that I think there might be some questionable people on it.
Sigh. Wish I could be her friend, but I think maybe I should be the parent on this one.

Kathy, I'm not a parent, but I must say I think you are absolutely right on this issue. We have had quite a few girls in our area fall victim to internet predators. You cannot be too careful.
