End of Year Awards

This last Saturday was the end of year awards banquet for the Badger Horse Show Association. The series has shows throughout the summer and we try to attend the ones closest to home. The girls can win ribbons and trophys at each show and in addition as members of Badger, they can earn year end awards.

Shyla took Grand Champion in Barrels, Poles and Plug and 6th place in Tire race. She missed high point speed rider in her age division by 1 point. If we can keep Kelzon healthy she will likely have another large trophy next year. He will then likely go into retirement.

Nicole took 6th place in poles in her age division. I must add that this was a tough year for her. The trophy in no way reflects her riding abilities, ambition or efforts. She rode a 4 year old all summer. He learned barrels in May and they are still working on the finer points. I would imagine her year end trophy next year will be larger. Although, there is interest now in going to some Foundation Quarter Horse shows and doing their events. This consists of Ranch Riding, Showmanship, Reining, Trail, Barrels and Poles. In addition they have cow classes (roping and cutting) which we will not particpate in. Branching out for her and Sammy will be good.
