I've been trying to get the girls to more shows as the summer winds down. N really needs to start pushing Gunner harder to start to become competitive. He's improving at each show as she pushes a little more.
On Saturday he/she fell at the second barrel. I've watched the video over and over and can't pin point what went wrong. She thinks he just wasn't concentrating. I can see her shift in the saddle just before the barrel, but he takes a couple mores strides before he goes down. (??) See what you think and leave a comment... Oh and I just watched it with sound. ha ha... I can't keep myself from yelling I guess.
I was thinking later that it is a bit odd that this didn't frighten me at all. It seemed so slow motion, and she was up and chasing him out of the arena before I could even start moving to get to her.
Her first barrel was better on this run as they were in the exhibition run. Her biggest problem right now is keeping him going to the rate point, meaning she slows him down (or he does it himself) too soon coming into the barrels.
S decided her horse wasn't ready for the show we went to on Thursday and was out of town on Saturday. She will return to shows again this upcoming Thursday. I have ingrained in my children that they must ride at least three times during the week before going to a show, and therefore she decided because she hadn't been riding in the last week of horridly hot weather, she wasn't ready.
In other news we had a nice evening Saturday with friends at the local firemen's fest. Great pork sandwiches and good company. Sunday saw us serving food at our annual church picnic. They had a polka mass that I could only hear the bass of. I am half Polish so I luv's me some polka music.
Sunday evening was a meeting with our 4H club officers and then a dash home to feed the horses and watch the Olympics. Hope everyone else had a nice weekend!

Crazy video! Glad all is ok! I wouldn't have a clue as to what went wrong!
You are so good. I would've been screaming worried that they were both really hurt. I hate to see horses fall.
OMG!! I always have a hard time watching someone take a spill (the reason I don't like to watch jumping events). I'm glad to hear that Gunner & N were okay. When I was little, I was pretty resilient to that stuff too -- now I worry about getting hurt too much and just stick to safe, slow stuff *sigh*
