Something to keep you up at night

If you look closely he looks kind of sleepy. This is what I have been dealing with lately. This last Monday I took him back down to the UW Vetschool where they thought his legs had taken a step for the worse. The farrier took a look at them and thought with a little off the toe they would be good, and sure enough they were. It had been three weeks since his last trim. So I will watch his legs now to see if they start to go back upright in a couple of weeks.

I mentioned that he has been depressed, and they at first said that was normal, that foals settle down. I then brought it up again to a different vet and he said he thought he had been sedated. So they took him out and had lots of different vets look at him and hmm and haw over him.

Neurologically he seems to be okay except for his depressed state. They took blood and it came back fine. The only thing they thought looked off was the shape of his skull. He seems to have an overly large forehead, which could mean hydrocephalus. (water on the brain)

Emmett has been successfully weaned for a little over a month now. Here's a shot of him I just took.

So, yeah, that's what's new here! Some days he seems better, other days not so much. They said don't do anything drastic unless he shows more signs such as seizures or lack of control of himself. In the possibility that it is just depression I threw Uncle Gunner in to take care of him. He does follow him around allot more than he did Lloyd the Donkey, but he is definitely still depressed.

The Saga Continues...

It is a saga...man. This little guy is teaching us all so much. We are all pulling for the little guy. I loved the story about your parents. I am behind on my blogging, so slowly catching up. Surprised to find Emmett already weaned and looking so big...the summer is flying by.

Aw Kathy, I'm sorry to hear this. Emmett is such a beautiful little guy, it seems unfair he has all these struggles. What exactly is "water on the brain" and what can they do about it?? I'll keep him in my thoughts and prayers!

I hate all this for the little fellow. Life should be fun and happy and filled with romps and sunshine. Poor baby.
