A Spring Day

Last week was beautiful here in Central Wisconsin.

We have two calves on the ground here at our farm. This little cutie pie is losing part of his ear due to frost bite. Sometimes some of our cattle look a lot like Shrek after the frost bite gets to them at this tender age.

This little guy was born just this last week. The older calf harasses him non-stop to play, but he's just not up for it yet.

Here's Lloyd coming out of Classy's foaling shed. He's been having a grand time now that the snow is melted. At times we will look out to see him running around the pasture bucking and snorting, rolling and then bucking and running some more! There is no apparent reason, other than he feels good.

This picture is of The Dread Pirate Roberts. He is our farm rooster. Isn't he beautiful? I don't think I have taken a picture of him before. He does a good job of protecting his ladies. He scares me a bit, as I have been attacked one too many times by roosters. The difference this time is he absolutely LOVES S. In the past the roosters would pick on her. The Dread Pirate will run right up to her and follow her around adoringly. It stems from an incident where she "saved" his life when he got stuck in a snow storm on a rock. Now mind you, he was a mere three feet from his coop, and the door was wide open, but in his little mind, those three feet were 1000!

Finally, here is a picture of miss Classy Peavy. Today she is at 345 days pregnant, and you can tell. I've started to check on her in the night. She waxed briefly yesterday afternoon, and her bag was swollen beyond what I thought was capacity! For those of you who have been pregnant, remember those last two lovely weeks? Yeah, well, our girl Classy is there. She's at that spot. If you don't believe me click on the image to see a bigger shot. It's in her eyes. It almost hurts to look at them. For all of our sakes, I hope the big event happens soon, but none more than for her.

Gorgeous photos, Kath. I have to admit that my favorite by far is the Dread Pirate Roberts. I enlarged that one and he is BEAUTIFUL.

I'm not fond of roosters either for much the same reason, roosters and geese seem to chase me.

I hope your mare foals soon, I know that waiting is the pits, not to mention the sleepless nights.

Thanks for showing your rooster. 1, because he is very beautiful and 2, so that I am not the only one that enjoys having a rooster around the yard! And Lloyd, he is just too cute. I love the little calf pictures too. My dad had twins earlier this Spring. He always loves the extra work I think that comes with them. He is a farm work-a-holic when he is not babysitting grandchildren! I should go over one day and photography some of his babies, they make cute pictures!

I keep coming over just waiting on that baby!
