Last week I worked all but one day, and the weekend was pretty busy too, therefore I am about a week behind with my pictures of Emmett and blogging in general.
I was looking through day 2 pictures and I just can't believe how much he has grown in two weeks!
Here's a shot of him trying out his new legs. In the background you can see Lloyd watching by the water tank.
This one is a picture of N and I cleaning him up after his first milk poo. It was kind of messy and so we washed him as well as possible, and then N volunteered to put the Vaseline on. This week he will need another cleaning up after the foal heat poo. (Such lovely things you are learning about horses eh my diva sisters?)
We are starting to offer him pelleted food. He doesn't eat but a bite or two and then he's off running again.
I can lift all four of his legs already and rub him all over with out TOO much protest, including in his ears and inside his back legs. I make sure I can lean over the top of him and hold my arms around his middle also. He is such a good boy!
Dixie and Gunner came home this weekend. We have two pens of cattle between the momma /colt and the two who came home, but they still found each other immediately, calling and watching each other through the wires.
Our first horse show of the season is this Sunday. Already!! For the first time ever our horses are pretty much ready. The girls have been riding for six weeks now and I don't feel afraid to let them let loose and run the horses. I know S will, but N will probably spend the first few shows working Gunner up to where he was last fall.
Gunner was looking a bit thin and non-energetic the last few weeks, so on Tammy's recommendation we changed his feed. Holy smokes is he ready to go now! After the first three days of feed he planted all four feet and sent N flying above her saddle. I looked over in time to see about 2 feet of air between her but and the seat. She actually rode it out and really got after him for being so rank. The rest of the week saw a better horse, both energetically and respectfully. She will definitely have to watch for that and lounge instead of getting hurt.
In non-horse news N took four firsts and three seconds with her seven pieces of music she played at our state solo and ensemble. She, like her mother, is a perfectionist at her art and can't enjoy anything but a perfectly played piece. So, these competitions are stressful. She did beautifully in my opinion, but then I might be slightly biased...

If that isn't the cutest thing ever. I am really happy it is going so well for you and the new baby.
Awwww, He is too cute!
I didn't know about milk poo (I have never raised a foal, obviously!) That litte guy is just too adorable! That blaze is amazing!
Beautiful baby. Little love bug it looks like. Maybe he will be your horse:-)
Sounds like you are giving him a good start. He'll be used to all kinds of things and be a much better horse.
It is amazing how fast they grow. By the end of the first month, he will have changed so much he won't look like a newborn anymore. It's always interesting to me the stages they go through.
Sounds like the music competition went well. Congratulations to N!
I am so going to not have babies this year and next year, and only had one last year that is a spoiled brat. What a cutie pie. Give him a hug and muzzle nuzzle for me. The handling will pay off later but you must keep it up. I have made the mistake of starting out that way with the first foal and then as the others arrive and the workload gets worse, never getting to do it with any of the babies and you can definitely see the difference i their attitudes when being handled.
Congrats to N on the music competition too.
