So here's how Sunday went, for all two of you who might have been wondering.
Wake up at 6:30 am. A delight. Mainly because it was a wake up without an alarm clock, and to me, it was an early enough wake up not to feel guilty. If I had woke at 9:00, I would have felt guilty.
Have breakfast. Today I was yearning for cereal. Do you think I had Cheerios on hand? Uh, no. So I opted for Golden Frosted Flakes. I took a bite and gave it to the dog after fishing out the bananas for my next bowl. My next bowl was graham crackers, reverting to my childhood.
8:00 am, wake S. She is usually up early, but for some reason she slept in. Spend the next forty minutes pushing her to: eat breakfast, brush hair, put contacts in, brush teeth, put socks on, put shoes on. Not sure she ever got her contacts in or teeth brushed. You'd think that would gross her out (the teeth thing) but for some reason, not so much.
8:40 am, drive girls to Sunday school. Beg friend to give them ride home. She's got plans and can't do it. Tell girls I'll pick them up at 10:00.
9:10 am, put on farm boots, bibs, coat, glove and hat. Drag hoses and hook them up to fill water tank. Help Jack and his brother round up cattle. Sort cattle and put them in barn. Notice all the cattle are looking at the trailer so turn to shut gate. Swear as heifer runs past me, and we have to start over.
9:50 am, drive to pick up girls at Sunday school in farm clothes, reeking of cow do do. Pick up girls and insist they run into local gas station to get me a soda. Give them instructions on what to do when we get home: Feed Horses, turn off water to tank and draining hoses, start laundry, do dishes, play drums, etc.
10:10 am, drive to farm where cattle are being weighed and ultra sounded. Ultra sounded to get loin scores for production information. Hang out with local male farmers.
11:00 ish, Score! Talk to local vet student (whose farm we are at) and ask about inseminating Classy. He can't do it, but wait, his buddy, who's standing right there would. Plus, local farmer wants to learn how, so it would be a teaching type thing. Notice his buddy looks familiar. That's right, he's the intern who's been working with the vet service we use the last couple of summers.
12:15 pm, Head home after herding cattle through chutes (and no ladders). Get to drive truck and trailer full of cattle. It's SO much different than the horses. They are free loaded and move around allot, plus the load's pretty heavy, 8000 lbs of just cattle.
That's just the morning..I won't bore you with the afternoon, but to say I did come across a new calf about 4:45 pm. It's a sweetie. I am heading over to let it out (stayed in warm hay shed last night). For some reason it's ears are longer, and floppier than normal.
Have a great Monday!
