Checking In

It's Monday, and while we thought spring was here...maybe not. It's chilly (37) and raining. Yucko.

No foal yet. She is (obviously) closer each day, but no waxing yet. Mares, for my non horsey friends, leak colostrum shortly before foaling. The colostram is thick and sticky, and creates what looks like wax on the teats of the mare. More than you wanted to know I am sure.

Classy is at the moment hanging with Lloyd in the shed, facing Northeast. That's the update I get from Jack during the day. "She's facing Northeast again." Sure enough, I look out and she is facing north east. Not eating hay as aggressively, just standing, tolerating that part of pregnancy that is the last few weeks.

This morning I went out and brushed her off real well, and after cleaning her stall I went to brush Lloyd, and then felt a nudge. From Classy. So, she still wants my attention. She doesn't get mad if I brush others, she just nudges me to let me know, that I really should be giving her the attention.

On the calving front we have had about 10 calves already this spring. All (knock on wood) are healthy and doing well. They are at that cute age where there is lots of jumping, kicking and frolicing. I hope to get pictures later this week when it clears up.

I'm in the process of trying to sell Catfish. He is just not working out t he best for me. So, I will see if I can sell him and perhaps look for a different riding horse for myself.

I'm so excited to see the new foal when it arrives! I remember when you made the decision to breed and when you found that yes indeed Classy was in foal! I can't wait!

I hate foal watch. It is my least favorite thing about having babies. Funny with the time I spend watching "other" mares on MareStare but then I guess that's the point, those other mares are no mine to worry about. lol

I hope your foal watch goes quickly and smoothly and can't wait to see pics.

Also, good luck in selling Catfish so you can begin looking for another horse to ride.
