So, last Thursday we got a foot of snow and then yesterday we got um...I think about 8 to 9 inches. Yea. Winter is still here. With a vengence!
In spite of the snow, I got over to Tammy's and took a lesson along with S on Saturday. We worked on roll backs, and trotting perfect circles by using our calves to move our horses ribcage over. Plus I got to canter a bit more and try out my home made coolers. Coolers in this context are light weight fleece or fleece/wool combo blankets you place over your horses to cool them off. I found a couple of fleece blankets on sale at Wal-Mart, sewed them together, and added a head strap made of wide elastic. The worked quite nicely despite being just a tad bit short.
Jack tore some ligaments in his foot on Saturday night. He was placing the round bale ring around the round bale he had just put in with the horses, and jumped up and down on the portion that wouldn't settle. It settled, and as it came down, so did he. I heard his cry of pain and went to investigate. He was bleeding from the nose, but assured me it was his leg that hurt. We waited the storm out until today to take him to Madison. Our local hospital has too many horror stories associated with it, so it's best to drive the hour in cases such as these. The verdict was no broken bones, but possibly some ligament damage. He needs to wait a few days and if it isn't better, he should go in for a MRI. (fingers crossed please)
For the next few days I plan on turning down any work to stay close to home and help him out. Hopefully I can get out and take some pictures. It's amazing to see how much snow we have. Our fences are taking quite a beating. Especially the woven wire along the rode, it is being weighed down by the weight of the snow drifts the plows have created. I think I might be able to take a few interesting shots of drifts that wind has created as well.
Until then...

Hope it's nothing serious. I had the fence problems last year. This year good so far inspite of the snow!
