Gosh, I'm sorry for to those of you who have wondered where I have been. I wish I had some great story!
Instead all I can say is that I have been busy working. I got called in three days already this week.
Last week I had a bout of food poisoning. I think. Or a touch of the flu. I really didn't feel well for about four days. I had made some teryaki type stir fry from a mix. The bag was opened slightly when I took it out of the freezer, and it smelled off when I cooked it. Kind of sour. Sure enough the next day it hit me. N was wise enough not to eat it. Or at least not much, and S wouldn't touch veggies with a 10 foot pole. Jack eats anything and everything. I guess you could say his stomach is like a cows and mines like a horses. I get sick at the drop of a hat. He's never sick, and if he is, he's down.
The poor horses were out of water last night. S's fish was dead on the bottom of the tank. I felt like an idiot. I don't remember EVER running the horses out of water. To top it off, our sub zero weather this last weekend froze the exterior faucet. So, there I am at 9:00 pm trying to figure out what to do. I asked Jack and he suggested a hair dryer. Somehow it came to me to run hot water over the faucet. Sure enough it thawed out and I was able to drag the hoses out to the tank and give them water. Donkey and Catfish were there waiting.
Often when I am out doing farm work like that and come across problems I think "what would my mom do?" Jack and I are argueing about who's going to carry the water to the horses. "I'm stronger" he says. Which just really pisses me off and makes me yell back. It's comical really, because we never yell at each other. Ever. Until he tells me I can't do something. I guess it goes back to having four brothers. I don't know. N just laughs at us.
So...there's a quick update. Or not so quick. Thanks for your inquiries!

Our fish didn't make it this winter either.....didn't run out of water - but I needed to clean the tank and had let it get down to the heater....unfortunately there was too much hay and "sludge" on the bottom, and didn't make it. I was sad as we'd had it a long time and it was quite large.
Sigh...
And well, its snowing....and it's NOT Pretty anymore.
T.
I always think "What would Aragorn do?" ha ha...lucky horses (and donkey) having such a clever human :)
Wait...you keep fish in your horse water tanks???? Why?
Tammy, I agree with you on the snow...its not pretty anymore. I am so done with this snow.
Bless your heart! Flu or poisoning either way sounds miserable. We set up one of those ball watering things so it would freeze but when I have them in individual stables they can't get to it. Last week I forgot about Spirit's water and felt so guilty but luckily my husband looks out after me and had watered him. Hope things get better soon...or at least the weather warms up. That always helps!
Beth, the fish are to keep the algae down. Goldfish in particular are excellant for this. You wouldn't think so with how dirty fish tanks can get, but somehow it all evens out.
We had one for many years that dies when we moved it here. Got it at the fair of all things!
I hate when someone tells me I can't do something as well. I also had a passle of brothers. I never thought about it being connected before.
Sorry about the fish and for that matter having to deal with a tank at 9 at night isn't much fun either.
