Eight Things About Me

I finally have my Eight Things You Don’t Know About Me meme completed. Ann at Smells Horsey invited me to participate.

Here’s some things that are mostly rural life related, but I did throw in a couple artsy things just for fun…

  1. A trespasser I am. I enjoy trail rides. It is to me the perfect harmony between horse and nature. So, as we trail ride along the hi-ways and bi-ways around our county, I am the one who will veer off the road and head on to land that is not ours. I’ve only got caught twice. Once when the trail ended in someone’s back yard and once when a hunter told me it was game night. The kids won’t follow me anymore, so there isn’t much trespassing going on. It stems from childhood when we would get lost all day in our woods and the neighbors, and the neighbors beyond and no one cared.
  2. I didn’t know anything about large animals before meeting The Man. Shortly after The Man and I started dating he told me to go get Truck from beside the back building. Truck was his 2500 lb bull. So, out I went naivety at it’s best and tugged and tugged on his halter. Luckily he was super tame and super lazy for all he did was lay there and stare at me. This was my first encounter with Angus cattle.
  3. I make everyone stop and look at sunsets, cloud formations, and just anything of beauty that catches my eye. My youngest S does the same; it’s something small I’ve passed on to her.
  4. I like realism. I admire those who can paint, draw or create art in such a way, but as I am getting older I realize that expressionism is truly my style. To create what you feel and give that sense to others in a piece of art moves me.
  5. I love to watch ballet. In particular modern ballet such as The Hubbard Street Dancer Company out of Chicago. Before I was married my former roommate and I would get together every other year or so and go to a performance. When ever I see they are in Madison I think of her and wish I had someone to go with.
  6. I make a mean chicken noodle soup. I mean it is GOOD. Home made noodles and all.
  7. I like horses more than my kids. It’s true. Although S might be equal to me, N definitely doesn’t need them in her life like I do. When I am getting nervy (read *itchy) and I can’t even stand myself, I go and brush the horses. Half an hour with them gives me a new perspective on life. I just realized as I was rereading this one that I might have come off as liking horses more than my children, when in fact what I meant was that I like our horses more than my children like our horses. Ha ha ha...
  8. I have a riding shoe fetish. I contain myself pretty well, but I do love a nice boot. I have three pair, which, come on, for a casual rider is like, two pair too many!

Whew! That took awhile! Now I’m supposed to pass this along, but instead you decide if you have something to share and leave the link to it in the replies.

I'm glad you are a trespasser. You do need to be careful about hunting season (and hidden landmines and wires), though.

I love the story about going to get Truck. And you married The Man anyway? (Good choice!)

I've never known anyone to make homemade noodles for their chicken soup. Post the recipe! (My poor family doesn't know any better than canned chicken noodle.)

Three pairs of boots sounds just about right. One for mud, one for riding and one for church and dressy events.

Thanks for playing!

I did think that! I thought Kathy how can you like your horses more than your children? Then I got it. Great list. I had no idea you enjoyed the ballet. I've never heard any other blogger put that on their lists.

I think it was a Froydian slip ;^) or maybe like me , you've just heard your kids whine it at you so many times it's automatic!

I thought it too, then as I read farther I figured out what you meant, but I laughed at the thought. LOL

Who names a bull Tractor? There better be a story with that. lol

I think three pairs of boots are cool. I only have two but not because I wouldn't want more, I'm just hard to fit.

Homemade noodles, that's cool, I have a friend who makes homemade noodles too, they are scrumptious. And my family gets soup from a can if they get it at all.

Anne tagged me too, so I've already done this list.

My husband doesn't get WHY I like to go down to the barn and slip in the stall and just lean up against my horse and smell and absorb that positive energy.

I'd be willing to try the ballet once.....I've never went.

I agree on the trespassing - It is nice to be able to ride at will, instead of 3 miles down the road to the one place that will let you on their 20 acres.
