Why I need to borrow Lulu

Liz over at Lazy Life has a wonderful dog Lulu who spends many hours fighting with possums. How I wished for him the other night. Mick the fearless farm dog had a possum right smack in the center of a rolled up length of plastic flooring. I could see it from one end while Mick was on the other. He was a fighter too, snapping and growling at our canine hero. Lulu could have gone right in after him being the aerodynamic little thang she is.

Why am I concerned about possums?

See the cute little white chicken in the back? From what we can gather a possum broke into the chicken coop about a month back and terrorized the place. Feathers were everywhere and Little Whitey here has been half naked for about a month. Lucky for her the feathers are starting to fill in, but she looked pretty rough for awhile. I also stopped getting any white eggs, which was her specialty, so I think she was fairly traumatized. Once the feathers are fully replaced she will relax and start to lay again. If not she has a home here as long as she wants. She and the brown hen, Fluffy Muffy, are my oldest.

You know why else Lulu needs to visit? Cause she's just so darn cute!

I didn't know you had chickens too! Well we have more in common!

I hate those blasted possums...greesy nasty things. They have killed our chickens before and they steal the cat and dog food. Martin shot one once in the middle of the night that had been vexing us and the darn thing climbed up under the deck and died! We had to say boards up to get it out! That was before the new deck thank goodness. I have a feeling the Labs together keep them away.
But they are mean.....have you seen them hiss? dreadful!!!

Thankfully we don't have any problems with possums or raccoons, our dogs have a large fenced area and they can't get into it, which means they can't use the big dog door that leads into our living room. I hope your chickens are OK!

And Lulu is adorable. I really want a long-haired doxie but my husband isn't convinced we need to add to our menagerie.

I'll never forget the time little Bear had one of those mean suckers cornered in his kennel. Or was it vice-versa? I can't really remember who cornered whom... but it was quite a standoff. And that was the meanest looking varmint I ever did see.

Thankfully, the possums that Lulu killed were babies so they did not hurt her. But I'm pretty sure it was the momma possum that tore up my fence last spring.

Possums are safe from Lulu because she can't jump up to pull them off the fence. So now they just sit up there and taunt her until I take the rake and shoo them off.
