Adding and Subtracting

Yesterday the girls and I drove an hour and a half to look at a horse. We are looking to get a replacement horse for S to use next year. Kelzon will be 27 next year and past his hard running days.

Catfish is definately a step up. N rode him first because his seller was concerned about a younger kid being able to handle him. N - LOVES him. I can't blame her, I have never seen her fly around the barrels like that, and she hadn't even opened him up. The adrenilan rush alone sold her. With the horse market being so weak right now, he is offered at a price we can afford. He's not a beauty by any stretch of the means, but we have finally figured out that you can't ride beauty!

Unfortunately, one of the horses here will have to be sold. Therefore, Keo is being offered for sale. Ideally we should get down to three horses. My horse needs to be the backup horse for my girls. Kelzon, being the wonderful horse he has been, can not be sold, and he is the ideal backup. Would he be my choice? No. He and I have come to an understanding after three years. I have figured out his favorite rub spots, and he will, on occasion, let me pet him. If I had to choose I would keep Gunner. He is my baby.

So, within the next few weeks there will be both delight and sorrow as a horse arrives and one or more leaves. The girls will be sad to see Keo leave, as will I. She and I have traveled many a mile this summer, and she has given me back my confidence. I can't even type my thoughts about having Gunner leave...so for now we will avoid that subject.

It is so sad that Keo will have to leave! Good luck on your journey to find a horse that is a perfect match for you guys.

How did S do on Catfish? Your girls seem like such confident riders.

Thanks Beth,

S did okay. She was a little intimidated by him. We are leaning towards her riding Classy next year, but it's all a guess at this point. It depends how much she grows, her attitude etc.

Having to sell a horse can be really hard sometimes. I suspect that we'll be going down from 5 to 4 at some point here in the future. But, like you, can't think about that one right now.
