N and Gus

This is a picture of N and Gus a 4 year old breeding stock paint. She showed him in showmanship on Sunday and placed fourth in her age division. She just started learning showmanship this spring. We decided it would be good for her to get in front of a judge and to also learn how to control a horse better on the ground. I was quite proud of her, because just before entering the arena her coach was giving her last minute "oh.. and I haven't told you yet, but you need to..." type of advice. No ones fault there but our lack of time to practice.

N and S had a speed show on Saturday.

N rode Classy and Keo for the first time at an event. Keo, is lame in her right rear. We suspected as much, but wanted to test her at a show none the less. I will now use her for trail riding and try and see if we can strengthen it. The vet, after a thorough exam, said it is arthritis, and while we can help her with her discomfort, because of her age, there just isn't much we can do. Classy on the other hand, perfomed beautifully. N really thought about what she needed to do to make her NOT tip the second barrel and came away with a 6th and two 4ths in her age division. I had a hard time not crying with joy. I did raise both my hands up in the air and yell YES! When they announced her time. (proud momma that I am) They will only get better as the summer progresses as she has ridden Classy very little this spring.

S also did well with Kelzon. She took three fourths and one third with the old man. He is definately showing his age this year. They might have placed a little higher, but S was confused about where the timer was and repeatedly drew him up before the timer, adding time to her runs. The most heart warming thing I heard all weekend was her talking to him while she was picking his feet out. She said "Kelzon, I know there are some fast horses this year, but we'll just do the best we can." And here we were worried about her attitude once she started getting beat by younger horses. =)

More pictures to come... and more shows too - we have another one this Sunday. Then it's off to Equestrian camp. We can't wait!

N and Gus are a striking pair! What a lovely girl.

We haven't done the horse show thing yet, although my daughter is starting to express a lot of interest. Looking forward to seeing more horse show photos.
