Spring

Spring by far is my favorite season. Especially on a day such as today. I am surrounded by a sea of green. It must by my English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish ancestry coming out eh?

We are experiencing a bit of unexpected beautiful weather. It was supposed to rain non-stop for three days. Luckily for us that has been pushed back a few days.

My chores today will consist of doing animal house cleaning. The horses pen needs to be cleaned out. I get to use the skid steer. I love the thing - it makes moving things SO much easier.

I also will finish cleaning the barn out. Our cows have free access to the barn all winter, so you can imagine the mess in there. It's good back breaking work. Oh well - it's time to burn off that extra 10 lbs I put on over the winter anyways...

Keo news:
After meeting with the trainer she has a hitch in her rear right leg. We had an equine vet look at her on Tuesday and he recommended keeping her on antibiotics for lyme disease another 21 days. She should have very light exercise, so for May Nicole will likely ride Classy. (It's nice to have a backup)

Other horse news:
Nicole is working on horsemanship with Gus our trainers western pleasure style horse. He's a 4 year old breeding stock paint. Nicole needs confidence in herself and in handling horses. She tends to let them step all over her. I thought this would be the perfect way to get her out in front of a judge and people and to learn about personal space issues in her human/equine relations.

Tomorrow starts the beginning of the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison. We will attend at least one day to ooh and ahh over all the pretty horses, and to, of course, buy stuff! They also have a few clinics I would love to see. The challenge will be to get the girls out of bed at 6 am on a Saturday to get there on time!

Art news:

I am working on a picture of a palomino that is receiving a smooch from a little girl. It is done on black paper with white colored pencil. So basically I have to draw only the highlights and light areas instead of only the dark areas. It's a good ground breaker to get me back drawing again. I decided to go back to drawing things I love - horses. When I was 7 and 8 I would spend HOURS drawing horses, horses and more horses. They adourned my walls, and my best friends walls.
